Anger is not a root emotion, it is an overlying feeling that is a mask to a deeper issue going on inside. 

If you are constantly battling anger, you need to identify what emotion actually lies beneath. 

Do you lash out if someone hurts you? Maybe you are embarrassed.

Do you get upset when someone won't listen to you? That could be a lack of control.

Betrayal

Sorrow

Grief

Fear

Shame

Guilt....

Can all be under that anger that bubbles up.

Scripture

God gave us the emotion of anger, He gave us all of the emotions! What He didn't do is give us permission to not manage it, or manage it unhealthy ways. 

"In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold." Ephesians 4:26–27

This verse tells us that we CAN be angry, but in that anger, do not let it overtake you into sin. Screaming, hitting, emotional, verbal and physical abuse are sinful in nature. Another way it can be unhealthy is to hold a grudge or even "silent treatment".

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

We are reminded here to make sure our heart and the words of our mouth are overflowing with things acceptable in His sight. 

"But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language our of your mouth" Colossians 3:8

We can feel anger and acknowledge it but we need to put it off and not allow it to consume us.
